Ryland's Periodic Table Shirt

Ryland Grace wears this periodic table shirt in Project Hail Mary. It’s a navy tee with the full periodic table printed on the chest and “I Wear This Shirt Periodically” underneath. Ryan Gosling plays Grace, a middle school science teacher, so a shirt with a chemistry pun on it is basically his uniform.

Grace has a whole rotation of these things, including a Kliban cat shirt, an “I Had Potential” shirt and the official mission t-shirt. The periodic table itself is the work of Dmitri Mendeleev (opens in a new tab), who left gaps for elements nobody had found yet. I like to think he’d appreciate the joke. I like to think he’d appreciate that I had to look him up.
